National Night Out is a community event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of August (which this year is August 1, 2023). This year’s theme for National Night Out 2023 is ‘One Oakland.’ The event is meant to bring neighbors together, on their own block, because when neighbors know each other, neighbors are safer. The events are typically organized by Block Watches, non-profit organizations, companies, and have the support of the City of Oakland. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighborhoods, City Staff, Council Members, and law enforcement – while bringing back a true sense of positive community.
