Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) – Mulching Away at Firestorm Memorial Garden, Thursday October 12th

On a beautiful crisp Fall Thursday morning, Vicki & Dan welcomed a dozen volunteers from two Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) groups to help spread mulch at the Firestorm Memorial Garden. This effort was done to prepare the garden for Winter after BrightView Landscape Services and Bentley School had helped to detail the garden this Summer. Busy sets of hands full of wheel barrels, shovels, rakes, tarps, buckets and other useful tools, along with the garden zone site map, were used to accomplish this undertaking and guess what happened? There is no more huge mulch pile. It’s gone! The IICF gang quickly and efficiently spread it throughout zones 1.2, 3, 4 and 5. Memorial Garden just looks great!

Mulching is the final step in the Memorial Garden maintenance program to assist with moisture retention, weed reduction and maintaining nutrients during the Winter months so that the garden can flourish next Spring.

We just finished this same year-end mulching project at the sister Gateway Garden & Pavilion in September. Both gardens are looking fantastic! A big ‘Thank You’ to Big Chief Tree Service for providing the much-needed mulch!

Please feel free to view the stream of garden event postings from Spring ’22 to Fall ’22 on the NHCA web site. The gardens have experienced quite a transformation in a very short time!
