In 2015 the North Hills Community Association accepted responsibility for the maintenance of the Gateway Garden and Pavilion and the Firestorm Memorial Garden through the City of Oakland. Without the support of the NHCA community, these gardens would not be maintained by the city, and they take constant year-round attention. If you have been by the gardens lately, you will see that they are being very well maintained by numerous volunteers organized through the NHCA Garden Committee.

On Saturday, February 3, Councilmember Janani Ramachandran and her team held a D4 Parks Appreciation Day to honor the work of 13 District 4 volunteer parks organizations who pick up trash, remove wildfire fuel and invasive species, and maintain our green spaces for our communities to enjoy.

NHCA Board members Nancy Mueller and Carolyn Burgess accepted the Oakland City Council Commendation on behalf of the NHCA Garden Committee (“We Care Hills Gardeners”) honoring the stewardship and care of the Gateway Garden and Pavilion as well as the Firestorm Memorial Garden. Check out the photos below!

We are delighted that the efforts of the NHCA Garden Committee are appreciated by the Oakland City Council, and thank our many volunteers who have been a part of this journey!
